Dr. M. Baskaran, PhD, in Psychiatric Nursing, DCMHN, is a Professor at PSG College of Nursing, Peelamedu, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. With two decades of experience in both academic and clinical settings, he has completed nine specialized programs and 105 courses through Coursera, offered by prestigious institutions such as Johns Hopkins University, University of Minnesota, University of Colorado System, and University of Colorado Boulder, among other international universities. Additionally, he has finished 52 modules, including eight courses focused on Research to Publication through BMJ Learning’s online platform from the UK.

He has been awarded research grants from The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, the Tamil Nadu Nurses Midwives Council, and PSG PRIME Research Grant from PSG Health Science Institutions. Dr. Baskaran has been honored with several awards, including the AGAR Research Excellence Award in Tirupattur, Tamil Nadu in 2024, the Academic Excellence and Outstanding Contribution to Research Award from Omayal Achi College of Nursing, Chennai in 2021, and the Best Teacher Award from PSG Institution, Coimbatore in 2019. In 2018, he also took part in an international faculty and student exchange program held in Switzerland.

In terms of academic governance, Dr. Baskaran functions as an Inspector for The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University and as an ad hoc Inspector for the Indian Nursing Council. He also evaluates PhD in various Universities, and is entrusted with setting question papers for undergraduate and postgraduate courses across various Universities. He serves as an editor and reviewer for multiple reputed nursing, health science, and interdisciplinary journals worldwide.

Beyond teaching and research, he is actively engaged in several institutional roles, including that of ISO Internal Auditor, All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) Nodal Officer, National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) Nodal Officer, and member of the Institution's Innovation Council (IIC). Furthermore, he is a member of the Institutional Human Ethics Committee (IHEC) at PSG Institute of Medical Sciences & Research.
